چکیده

The task of face recognition has been actively researched in recent years , and many techniques have been proposed. This paper reports on the design, implementation and experimental study of an improved technique for face recognition, including eye detection in the preprocessing phase of a localized face image. After a brief summary of some known face recognition techniques, we present an innovative algorithm for eye detection on gray intensity face image, which combines a feature-based approach using line edge map (LEM), geometrical properties of eyes, and the use of LEM eye templates. Matching in each case is carried out using primary line segment Hausdorff distance. Experimental results of face recognition using this technique are presented. A potential enhancement is also proposed, namely facial feature block-wise implementation of the LEM technique. Index Terms – Line edge map, Eigenface, Bayesian face recognition, Eye detection, Line segment Hausdorff distance.

A New Method for Eye Detection in Color Images

The problem of eye detection in face images is very important for a large number of applications ranging from face recognition to gaze tracking. In this paper we propose a new algorithm for eyes detection. First, the face region is extracted from the image by skin-color information. Second, horizontal projection in image is used to approximate region of the eye be obtained . At last, the eye ce...

Multi-scale keypoints in V1 and beyond: object segregation, scale selection, saliency maps and face detection.

End-stopped cells in cortical area V1, which combine outputs of complex cells tuned to different orientations, serve to detect line and edge crossings, singularities and points with large curvature. These cells can be used to construct retinotopic keypoint maps at different spatial scales (level-of-detail). The importance of the multi-scale keypoint representation is studied in this paper. It i...

Face normalization using multi-scale cortical keypoints

Empirical studies concerning face recognition suggest that faces may be stored in memory by a few canonical representations. Models of visual perception are based on image representations in cortical area V1 and beyond, which contain many cell layers for feature extractions. Simple, complex and end-stopped cells tuned to different spatial frequencies (scales) and/or orientations provide input f...

Face Recognition Based on Edge Detection Algorithm Using Matlab

The automatic recognition of human faces presents a significant challenge to the pattern recognition research community; human faces are very similar in structure with minor differences from person to person. They are actually within one class of “human face”. Furthermore, lighting condition changes, facial expressions, and pose variations further complicate the face recognition task as one of ...
